Special Projects

The Marshall Project

As founding audience editor, I shaped the analytics, community engagement, growth and audience product strategies from scratch. Facebook grew more than 1000%, email grew 512% and Twitter ticked up 480%.

Investigating internships

I designed and developed one of the first-ever community-powered news application, with Sisi Wei and Mike Tigas. I also wrote spot news, ran a successful Kickstarter, and designed the community engagement strategy.

Founder / Head Chef

In 2009, I designed a two-month fundraising roadtrip that retraced a route my mom took in the 1970s. Instagram didn’t exist yet, so my sisters and I blogged, tweeted and vlogged about it for the local FOX news station and raised money for the Ronald McDonald House. Here’s a fun story from The Daily Breeze in Loma Linda.

Vox Borders

I oversaw community engagement strategy for the launch of this international documentary series. Thousands of people submitted story ideas, signed up for the locals network, and attended meetups with Johnny Harris, the creator and producer, around the world.

Vox Video Lab

I spearheaded the launch of a new kind of membership program on YouTube, with support from innovation funding from the Google News Initiative. It connected fans from all over the world to our videos and creators. You can read more about it in Nieman Lab.

Vox Contributions

From 2020 to 2023, I launched and built Vox’s consumer revenue program. We raised 95,000 individual contributions. Every day, I was blown away at the generosity of people who believe in equal access to clear explanatory journalism.
